More Reasons Why UPS Mail Innovations Is Ineffective

When I checked the status of the tracking info for my WWE Series 12 Alberto Del Rio figure, I noticed that It moved from Groveport Ohio to Logan Township NJ. I live in Hazleton Pennsylvania, and my package went from Ohio to New Jersey. This is messed up big time. Last time I checked, Pennsylvania is between New Jersey and Ohio. So sending this package to Logan Township New Jersey is pointless. Here is the distance between Groveport Ohio and Hazleton Pennsylvania 454 miles, equivalent to an 8 hour and 4 minute drive. Now from Groveport Ohio to Logan Township New Jersey is 506 miles and is equivalent to a 9 hour and 6 minute drive. UPS Mail Innovations give your package the complete run around. Now from Logan Township New Jersey to Hazleton Pennsylvania is 107 miles or a 2 hour and 8 minute drive. Believe me this is really a screwed up logistics system. Why in the Hell can't UPS deliver a freaking package to the state it is going to without taking it to another state that it doesn't belong in? Does a package being sent from Ohio to Pennsylvania have to be sent to a sorting facility in New Jersey? No it does not. I don't think that UPS doesn't give a fuck about how ineffective their UPS Mail Innovations is. They don't belong in the mail prepping business in the first place. If UPS loves logistics so much why won't they fix this damn UPS Mail Innovations. FedEx Smartpost is better than this shitty service called UPS Mail Innovations.

  1. Funny. I found your post by Googling the question of why FedEx SP is so much slower than UPS MI. In receiving items in Alaska from Drugstore.com, they always send the free shipments via FedEx SP and they typically take 3-4 weeks to arrive. My current order was shipped 10/27 and it is scheduled to arrive 11/14. Had it been sent via USPS First Class, it would have been here by now and couldn't have cost any more than FedEx SP. UPS MI, on the other hand, usually seems to get packages to me much faster. They may still be rerouted in odd ways, of course. I still remember a package that went from California to their hub in Kentucky/Tennessee (can't recall if it was UPS or FedEx) and then up to Alaska.

  2. Hah, you're absolutely right about UPS not caring. Mail Innovations was their largest revenue maker, at least in FY2011 when I last had access to those figures. MI mgmt knows this and exploits it fully. Spread the word. Sadly, too many major retailers are using them now: QVC, HSN, Amazon, Walmart, CVS, eBay, and plenty others. And this was of 2012; there could be more now. Thankfully, these bigger folks usually offer a variety of shipping options. You know what to avoid.

Also, for what it's worth, any retailer that ships UPSMI and claims it's being shipped "UPS" is sort of full of shit and is likely ripping you off, leading you to believe a brown truck will deliver it and that you'll be getting the superior tracking that SP offers. NOT AT ALL. A small time courier or temp driver in a Ryder truck will pick the mail up, minimum wage temps will stage, process, and sort the material, and then another (usually larger) courier takes it to the USPS BMC or the airport where it's handled by SW/United/Delta/whoever until it gets to the target state; at the end, a USPS carrier delivers it.

UPS Small Package remains a good, reliable, transparent service. Mail Innovations is grotesque evil twin in comparison.

  4. UPS Mail Innovations is high-volume mailing service provider whose delivery time may takes longer as mail pieces need to be inducted into usps for final delivery.
